Good Faith Estimate
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under federal law, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate that explains how much your care will cost.
If you do not have health insurance, or you choose not to use your insurance, health care providers must give you an estimate of the expected charges before you receive a service. This is called a Good Faith Estimate.
What this means for you
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non emergency care, including related costs such as tests, prescriptions, and any other items or services that are part of your care.
- You can ask any provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during care.
- If you schedule a service at least three business days in advance, we will give you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within one business day. If you ask for an estimate, we will provide it within three business days.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.
- Keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate in a safe place.
